In Austalia Neal Harvey has Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's Venus in Furs into a play:
"That is all rather tame compared with what has developed in the past century. We have uncovered the emotional rawness in the relationship when the couple move into unknown territory," he says. "It's tragic because they love each other but can't live with each other."
... the play, which he also describes as more an exploration of a relationship than an examination of a fetish. "The world of BDSM is way outside my experience but I can understand the power struggle going on. Severin and Wanda push the boundaries but anyone can recognise the negotiations happening about the particular roles within the relationship."
