Plantation Fiction : Southern Gothic BDSM

It wasn't that long ago when you could buy Plantation novels in K-Mart, grocery stories and pharmacies - wherever mass-market paperbacks were sold. Can you imagine the response if books with covers like these suddenly appeared in Wal-Mart?

It wasn't always African-American women these studs were standing over whip in hand:

Since "Lance Horner" hacked much of the above out I'll add his best known book cover, made famous by Frank Frazetta's cover illustration. More D/s of a sort.

I know that Plantation scenarios and fantasies, racial role-playing are very serious erotic pursuits of some men and women. I can't deny that it squicks me. But I'm not foolish enough to judge them. Some of what passes through my mind would shock, appall and disgust many.

And it wasn't always the men who wielded the whip. Take a look at Plantation Femdom.

Wow I just love those paperback covers from the plantation books that came out in the 1960s and 70s. Guess with all the political correctness we won't see their like again. What a crying shame! I well remember as a horny teenager going into a new agents or drug stores and seeing sexy covers like these on shelves or on book spindles. Sure gave me ideas! When I plucked up the courage to buy some of them there was then the embarrassment to face at the pay counter ( like most pay counters the person behind the till was usually a woman or girl - who would always give me a "funny look" or snigger at when she saw what I was buying!)
The best books of course were the ones that were just as hot inside the covers as outside - but this couldn;t always be guaranteed.

That the plantation novels lasted into the 1970s surprised me. But it is easy to forget what an enormous transitional decade the seventies was.
