Though undoubtedly "borrowed" from an earlier source, this photograph was used in Janus 38 (December 1974; Volume 4, Number 3, p. 71) to illustrate a reader's letter entitled "Doing Our Own Thing". D.S. of London W.1. begged the magazine to concentrate on "the spanking/schoolgirl material" rather than alienate its core audience by continuing to feature rival fetishes such as bondage and rubber. And, as the months wore on, he got his wish.

The second picture is recognizably a still from Nick Broomfield's 1996 documentary film Fetishes, devoted to the same NYC institution (Pandora's Box). Not convinced. To me it looks more like a later imitation of Irving Klaw's kitsch style than anything produced by John Willie, and neither was noted for colour photography.

The last picture in the full gallery is shot #58 in John Willie's photographic masterpiece variously known as "The Date" or "The Stolen Date". This is a set of 74 sequential photographs that depict a young woman forcibly binding and gagging her room-mate in order to take her place on a blind date. The aggressor subsequently strips the victim of her shoes and walks out in them, leaving the other girl to struggle helplessly on her bed. The complete sequence was reprinted in The Second John Willie Bondage Photo Book (London Enterprises Ltd, April 1978, pp. 14-33). Excerpts from it are studied by Kevin Spacey in the 1997 movie version of L.A. Confidential - anachronistically as the film is set in 1953, whereas Carl McGuire in A John Willie Portfolio (London Enterprises Ltd, September 1987, p. 16) dates the photo shoot to July 1959.
